Stumbling Into Success

Tom Hoff didn't start in the forestry hand tool business. Before Woodchuck, he had been designing and manufacturing unique products for the outdoor garden industry. It wasn't until 2009 that Tom began manufacturing and shipping Woodchucks out of Gardiner, NY. Interestingly enough, this wasn't a lifetime goal or the pursuit of a wild dream. The inspiration for the Woodchuck Tool product line came after Tom cleared a field of small chokecherry trees — and realized that the log lifts and jacks on the market were fine, but not great. Being a lifelong inventor and tinkerer, Tom spent the following year refining the design, which led to the development of the original patented Woodchuck.

One Man Army

From the very beginning, Tom single-handedly worked with domestic fabricators to create the aluminum extrusions, steel components, rubber handle grips, custom boxes, and every other part. Tom has drilled, assembled, and packaged every Woodchuck himself since 2009 — working out of Gardiner, NY from 2009 to 2016, and Shohola, PA from 2016 to present. 17 years of designing, building, shipping, fixing, and solving. All handled by Tom.

S-Tier Standards

Because Tom has managed every element of the business — from design to manufacturing to fulfillment — you can be sure that what you're getting is the real deal. Cutting corners was never an option. These tools were initially made for personal use, meaning every piece, part, and fabrication was held to Tom's standards, which are incredibly high. Because of those standards and a remarkable capability to design, prototype, and build products from the ground up, you end up with something that seems to have been lost over time. Products made with intention and care from the very beginning to the very end. Products built to last for generations.

Profound Impact

Over the last 17 years, it is clear that Toms products have made their mark on the forestry hand tool industry. Shockingly enough, little to no money has ever been spent on marketing campaigns and sales strategies. Normally, under these circumstances, business would fail to grow and flourish. But in the case of Woodchuck Tool, this is no typical circumstance. Time after time, outdoorsmen, industry professionals, homeowners, and content creators have organically flooded the web with positive reviews through Reddit threads, blog posts, and YouTube videos, providing the business with the reach and audience it needs to be sustainable.
