Tom Hoff began designing the first Woodchuck Tool in 2007 while clearing a lot in Gardiner, New York. After he was finished with the design, he registered a small array of patents over a decade ago. Since then, Tom has built every Woodchuck Tool himself since the first sale in 2009. Since then, he has refined his products over years of feedback from his customers.

Since the beginning of this company, imported look-alikes have popped up online time and time again. Some of them resemble our tools closely enough that customers have asked us if they are ours. They are not. We build every Woodchuck tool ourselves, and we only sell under our own name.

We are not going to pretend this does not sting. We would rather show you how to spot the difference. The look-alikes undercut our prices because the materials cost a fraction of ours to produce.

How to Tell the Original

Ask what the handle is actually made of. Our tools are made with 6061-T6 aluminum. The same spec used in aircraft structural components. Look-alike tools bend after a single use because they're built from a lower grade of aluminum. It costs a fraction of what we pay, and it performs like it. A handle that folds on the first log you attempt to lift is not a bargain at any price.

Ensure there is a lifetime warranty. Every Woodchuck tool carries a lifetime warranty. No look-alike does. That's how you tell.

Read the reviews, and read the dates. Our original Timberjack carries 4.8 stars across 600+ Amazon reviews, written by real customers over more than a decade on the same listing. A review history like that is hard to fake and harder to copy.

Why We Do Not Chase the Price Down

Look-alikes can sometimes sell for half our price because it costs a fraction of ours to make. The difference comes out of the metal, the fit, and the longevity of the tool.
